easiest apple sauce

put a whole lotta apples in your biggest stock pot, as they are

add 1/4C sugar

and a few shakes of cinnamon and nutmeg...

  • Add an inch of water to your pot, cover, and boil.
  • Once steamin' good, turn down to simmer until the skins on your apples are cracking open and the white flesh from your apples is mushy.
  • With a potato masher or just a large wooden spoon and the courage of your convictions, mush up the apples (it'll actually be so easy as the apples are super soft already)
  • Push the apple mush through a sieve (I got mine at Dollarama) and refrigerate
Good for...
  • substituting in for butter when baking muffins or cakes
  • a refreshing side to your roast pork
  • OR on it's splendid own.
This was an old recipe and post that I'm reviving today from the post graveyard. Mostly because sick Oli is on day 6 of a gastro virus and needs simple, healthy foods (I'll omit the sugar and spice). Definitely a favourite Fall recipe even when there's no good or happy reason to be whipping it up!

  1. I make applesauce with brown sugar and find it doesn't come out tasting that great..I think I will need to just use white sugar next time. Thanks for the recipe!
