NOW Foods sale, heads up!

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you in on a great sale happening right now at well.ca! All of their NOW Foods products are 30% off until Sunday!

If you're into the oilz (as I sort of am, read more here), I really like NOW oils and their bamboo diffuser has been on my list forrrrrrrrrrrever. I still don't think I'm ready to bite the bullet though... Can someone who owns it please tell me they can't live without it? I am in the mood to be swayed.

Also if you're gluten free, it's a great time to stock up on alternative flours or xanthan gum powder, if you make your own. Related note: I respect gluten-free foodies like no tomorrow! The lengths you must go to make a great pizza dough or chocolate chip cookie are arduous and yet there you are, making your own flour and thus pizza and cookies that would rival any of my gluten-feast meals. I'm seriously in awe. And sugar-free peeps (of whom I have boatloads of equal respect) will want to buy all the stevia. I'd really want to incorporate more stevia into my baking but adding sugar does more than simply sweeten - it changes the texture and volume too, so I'm not sure how. Would love any tips!

Just wanted to let you know, because I read somewhere that sharing is caring :) Have a great week!

  1. Thank you for this!

That Now diffuser is tres chic, but I have to say that of all the diffusers I have (I have 3 electric diffusers), my Now diffuser is terrible. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Ultrasonic-Grain-Diffuser/dp/B00PMNE73Q . The Bamboo one wasn't available when I bought this. Not sure if I got a lemon, but mine hardly works and I've heard others complain of the same thing. I don't even bother trying to use it anymore.

I've had the best experience with the simple candle diffuser like this one: http://www.amazon.com/SouvNear-3-8-White-Ceramic-Diffuser/dp/B00PMZF0KS/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463749182&sr=1-1&keywords=white+ceramic+candle+diffuser

I put it on a high shelf in my kids' room.

You have to wash it/wipe it after a few uses (or probably a use), but I put mine in the dishwasher and it's no problem. I have 3 that are super simple; like a white tube with a little well on top (no pattern) and the votive candle goes in back. They look sleek and minimalist. I can't find them on Amazon anymore, though :(. I use soy candles. Hope this helps!

  2. Thanks for letting us know!

I haven't tried any of the Now diffusers, but I have tried doTERRA and Saje diffusers, and both brands are great! I really appreciate the warranty that the Saje diffusers come with, and their designs are aesthetically pleasing. There are some doTERRA diffusers that are better than others - I really like the Aromalite and the Petal.

Be careful with any diffusers that use candles - heat changes the chemical composition of essential oils which leads to a change in the benefits, possibly making them cause harm instead of good. There are oils specifically created for this purpose, though.

    2. Oh, thanks for this! It didn't occur to me about the chem composition being damaged, etc., but that makes perfect sense. I do fill the well with water and then a few drops of oil. If I'm too generous with the oil, I do sometimes find some burned at the bottom. Anyway, part of what attracts me to the candle diffuser is that it's one less thing to plug in and I like candle light. That said, I'll check-out the doTERRA and Saje diffusers. Thank you!

  3. chocolatecoveredkatie.com is a great resource for sugar-free/reduced + allergen friendly desserts. She almost always gives alternatives for dairy, too, which is handy sometimes. Erika and I love many of her recipes. She's where I learned most of my info re: sugar replacements.

Re: diffusers - I bought a cheap one from amazon (30$) that is decent, but I would highly suggest if you're spending the money - get something that you can set how long it runs for. I run mine for Jack sometimes in the evening or at night when he's teething but from what I understand it's wasteful/pointless to diffuse for "therapeutic" reasons for longer than 30 mins and after a few articles of toddlers and EO toxicity, I don't want to run it for too long. So I have to stay up sometimes in the middle of the night just to keep it from running too long.

Also... ultrasonic diffusers are way more potent, so you need to run it for less time or at least, people tend to find that after 10 mins or so the scent is so powerful. Hopefully that's somewhat helpful info.

    1. Jess! I'll totally check out chocolate covered katie, thanks for the recommendation. Also great reminder about how long to diffuse for regarding toxicity around kids. I don't diffuse as of yet, but I would likely have diffused for hours and hours without really considering toxicity, so I'm so glad you brought that up.
