water bottles for summer! (I know, I'm the worst)

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I almost always keep a big 24 pack of plastic water bottles in the trunk of our car. Do you hate me now? We don't go through it quickly and we always recycle the bottles afterwards, but it's just so helpful having water with us in a pinch. I've always known this was a bad habit and I've heard about how much oil goes into making plastic bottles (and how these bottles are wreaking havoc on landfills and the oceans) but somehow I justified it. You know, I'm a busy mom and this little 'life hack' is so helpful. Well, no more.

The kids are I just watched A Plastic Ocean on Netflix, a fascinating documentary about plastic filling the oceans, disrupting ecosystems, killing endangered species, and  poisoning our food. It was eye opening and convicting. I consider our family fairly 'Green' - we recycle, we buy second hand, we rarely drive, etc. But I've been buying plastic water bottles for way too long and it's time to stop. Especially this summer, when we'll be out and about all the time and traveling a lot, I need to stop letting laziness and poor planning result in my buying plastic bottles of water. I need to get in the habit of filling up my water bottle before we leave the house and not forgetting it! I'd like to buy myself a glass water bottle for this summer. Here's what I'm looking for - not easily breakable, ideally with a straw but at least much have a spout (not a wide mouth like a classic Nalgene), and cute (hey now, I am going to have it with me 24/7). I came up with the options above (sources hyperlinked below the image). Which one should I get? I really like the first option, and it's under $20, but the spout on the forth option seems ideal and the stainless steal would be helpful...  If you have any great water bottle recommendations, I'm all ears!

  1. I have number 4 and I love it. I'm hoping it's going to come in really useful when I'm nursing my next baby. And It's definitely made me more mindful of drinking more water.

  2. I've had a stainless steel bottle for years and it's my favorite. Unless I leave it directly in the sun, it keeps my water much cooler than my other plastic bottle.

  3. Kleen kanteen all the way, and bonus you can get matching ones for the kids. My youngest has then sippy spout on her 12oz and it's the best water bottle we've had. No leaks. Winner
